Workshop entitled (Types of Dams and Causes of Failure)

A workshop was held entitled (Types of Dams and Causes of Failure) prepared and presented by Dr. Rasul Latif Naji. The workshop dealt with the topic in four axes: the dam, the function and purpose of constructing dams, the main parts of the dam and the function of each part. The hydrological and geological investigations that are carried out were also discussed, which determine the type of dam suitable for construction on site. After that, the process of classifying dams and their types was explained, depending on many factors, including size and function, as well as the materials that go into the construction and the applied loads. Finally, the most common causes that lead to the failure and collapse of the dam were presented and discussed.
