Department of Chemistry
The department was established in the academic year 2024–2025 as one of the departments of the College of Education at Ashur University. As is well recognized, chemistry is a globally oriented discipline whose concepts and theories are taught according to internationally accredited scientific standards, and whose applications contribute significantly to education, scientific research, and technological advancement.
From this standpoint, the Department of Methods of Teaching Chemistry seeks to provide its students with both chemical and pedagogical knowledge within global and local contexts, enabling them to become qualified teachers for the educational labor market in both public and private schools within Iraq and abroad.
The curricula of the department have been designed in accordance with accredited university and educational standards for teaching chemistry and preparing teachers. These curricula have been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The department is also committed to academic accreditation and quality assurance standards issued by national authorities, ensuring the preparation of highly competent educational professionals.
Qualified graduates of the department are able to work as chemistry teachers at the preparatory and secondary levels, contribute to curriculum development and scientific activities, and pursue postgraduate studies (Master’s and PhD) in Iraqi and international universities. In addition, they have opportunities to join specialized educational and research centers both within Iraq and internationally.
